For October 2011: "The Progressive Story", an annual project of our Writers Group - RULES AND REGS FROM PREVIOUS YEARS: We need to query ahead of time as to how many writers are willing to participate in our annual October "progressive story" project? Please let me know very soon if you'd like to participate in our group story project. I will put everyone's names in a hat and have a disinterested party make all the draws to determine the rotation order of each paragraph submission. I will then let everyone know what order they should submit their paragraph. (The first writer will have the priviledge of providing the introductory paragraph and others will follow in rotation.) Lets also pay attention to whether our submissions are in the same time tense as previous paragraphs: (i.e. past tense: use "was" "were"/ present tense use "is" "am") Hopefully we can also develop/maintain the characters' personalities in a similar manner to that of previous writers. Of course we will need to introduce new characters and new twists to the story from time to time- As usual, I guess we'll just have to play it by ear. We don't really need to have a great story - just have fun with it! The project can definitely be a challenge- Thirteen writers - that's how many participated one year- with totally different writing skills/styles/backgrounds/ etc.-- setting out to develop and maintain an interesting and at times even a believeable plot.....But our little group has been capable of doing just that- the first time we undertook the project -in 2004- the results were quite satisfying. The contributions were written in a remarkably similar style-- and if I remember correctly- the storyline progressed extremely well. Writers who've come up with endings to our stories in the past (the final contributor usually needs two paragraphs in order to tie everything together) have done so amazingly well. The final submitter also has the privilege of coming up with the title. Happy writing! Doris |
