Dawning of a cold day. -28C outside.
Somewhere under all that steam is the second longest natural lake in British Columbia.

Our southern view a few moments ago. -15C right now!! Brrr, that is cold. What ever happened to global warming? Nov 16th - second snowfall, but it is melting fast. Oct 29th - first snow and last thoughts of summer. Sunset as viewed from my front deck last night. Is that romantic or what? September and the return of the fall winds on Francois Lake.
Another forest fire on the edge of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park to the south. Wild Saskatoon Berry bushes are loaded with ripe berries waiting to be picked. Thick forest fire smoke obscuring the sun. Smoke filling the western end of the Francois Lake valley from new wild fires on Nadina Mountain. Forest fire just south of Francois Lake started by lightening. Rainbow over Francois Lake following a welcome rain fall.
Inland Forester, marine ferry provides free year-round vehicle traffic across Francois Lake. Francois Lake is clear and cold. The rocky bottom can be seen a long way down. Bright sunny day on Francois Lake. Note Mount Wells & Mount Tweedsmuir snow-caps. It is that time of year - the Morel Mushrooms spring forth. Young red fox pups exploring their new world. Bald Eagle nest in poplar tree, almost brought down by the weight of winter snow.
Juvenile bald eagle still wet from a plunge in the lake after a fish. The colour is slowly returning to the country side. There may be skims of ice on the lake but the humming birds are back!! Ice breaking up on Francois Lake April 21, 2009. Swans and Canada Geese resting before continuing their flight north. Nothing holds back the ice in spring, not even our wharf.
North slope of Nadina Mountain west end of Francois Lake. South slope of Nadina Mountain west end of Francois Lake. Arial view of southside ferry dock on Francois Lake showing broken ice flows. Canada Geese enjoying a rest near ferry landing. Positive spring indication. Waking up to the pitter patter of little feet outside the window. What a difference a day makes. Four inches of new snow has melted and a red fox welcomes bare ground.
Winter is not finished with us yet! April Fools!! Winter is back! The deer are not impressed. Dawning of a nice looking day. Mule deer fawn & mother cleaning up bird seed under feeders. Whitetail deer under bird feeder. Waiting for spring to come.
